Welcome
Welcome
The Joliet Montessori Adolescent Program provides a natural continuum of the primary and elementary Montessori approach which recognizes the specific needs and characteristics of the adolescent. The purpose of the program is to allow the adolescent an avenue to explore the various aspects of society and the different roles within it through a holistic method of education.
Students study the human experience throughout time and how it connects with different areas of study (algebra, history, science, capitalism, etc.). The Montessori approach at all levels is to show that all disciplines are connected. The adolescents are provided the opportunity to do meaningful physical work around the school, at Nature’s Classroom (www.nciw.org), and at various community service locations throughout the year.
The Montessori adolescent program is designed very differently from traditional based education. Individual adults (specialists) share their knowledge, experience, work and enthusiasm from a larger community with the adolescents. The program provides a communal learning environment and experience for the students. The specialists work with the students in the areas of World/U.S History, Math, Grammar/English, Writing, Science and Drama. Other components of the program involve Microeconomics, organizing a small class business and community studies of both Joliet and Chicago.
